Grooters was raising money for the victims A report from the Florida Highway Patrol said Grooters was riding his Cervelo bicycle east-bound on the paved shoulder of State Road 20 when a Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by 41-year-old Eddie Hogg, drove on to the paved shoulder, striking the rear of Grooters’s bike.

The impact knocked the cyclist off his bike and into the ditch next to the road. When emergency services arrived at the scene Grooters was pronounced dead. His funeral will be held today at the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church.
