SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration)

The Community Wellness Project (CWP) in partnership with Queen Of Peace Center (QOPC) and Missouri Institute Of Mental Health (MIMH) is providing Targeted Capacity Expansion for Substance Abuse Treatment/HIV Services for African American Women. CWP provides outreach recruitment, identifies, and seeks to engage African American Women who are at high risk for HIV infection and/or already infected and link them into pre-treatment services, including: treatment readiness for 30 days residential substance abuse treatment, HIV counseling and testing along with providing test results. This project has been successful in developing behavioral change by engaging targeted population into substance abuse treatment, connecting with recovery groups, providing referrals to available housing and employment opportunities.

The purpose of the proposed 12-month HIV prevention service project is to extend and expand existing HIV prevention programming currently being offered by the partnership of The Community Wellness Project (CWP), a health promotion organization, Queen of Peace Center Services (QoPC), a residential substance abuse treatment center, and Catholic Charities Community Services (CCCS), a provider of emergency assistance and family supportive services. The partnership is currently receiving funding under SAMHSA Contract Number: IH79T101883401 to provide HIV/AIDS prevention to at-risk substance using women. The proposed project will extend current HIV outreach, testing, counseling, and referral services and will expand the current programming by adding an evidence-based HIV prevention educational intervention that targets substance-abusing African American women at high risk for contracting HIV who live in the City of St. Louis, Missouri.
