A Comprehensive Review of Community Discovery Monitoring and Evaluation Protocols for the Illinois Department of Health

Training Description/Goals:

A comprehensive review of Community Discovery protocol for the Illinois Department of Public Health - this two-day workshop includes a thorough review of Community Discovery (also known as formative evaluation). It is the process where you attempt to learn more about your potential target population and your community. Conducting community discovery as part of the pre-implementation activities is essential in helping your agency define their specific way you will be implementing your program in your area. Conducting such research will allow you to collect valuable data that you can use to identify and prioritize potential target populations. It may also help you gather information on who is at risk for HIV, who has the greatest need for the intervention, and whom you can afford to reach with your available funds. The workshop will inform your intervention planning process and the development of how you might need to tailor your materials and major implementation activities so they are appropriate for your targeted population. This two-day workshop of community discovery will help you identify potential resources, people and the appropriate intervention for your agency and potential targeted population.

Training Objectives:

Upon completion of this workshop participants should be able to:

  • Identify the various community discovery methods.
  • Identify your targeted intervention population.
  • Understand the method for collecting data and information needed for effective implementation of effective behavioral interventions.
  • Identify target social networks
  • Enlist community mobilization and support
  • Identify components of the pre-implementation phase of the community discovery process.
